2026 Canada Safety Certification Guide

Canadian safety-training compliance is one federal layer, one national certifying layer, and thirteen provincial regimes that each decide who may deliver training, what the certificate must say, and how long it lives. This guide is the 2026 cross-country reference, provincially organized, with the June 2026 CSA Z1210 first-aid renames and the provincial registries that decide whether a certificate actually counts on site.

The national layer

WHMIS (federal, no legislated expiry), employer-issued TDG (36 months road / 24 air), CSA standards (Z1210 first aid, B335/B354 mobile equipment), and the national certifiers, Red Cross and St. John Ambulance first aid, Heart & Stroke BLS, Energy Safety Canada H2S Alive and CSO.

Province by province

Every OHS regulator and WCB, the approved-provider gates (WorkSafeBC-accepted TCP via BCCSA, Ontario CPO-approved Working at Heights and JHSC, CNESST-accredited secourisme, WorkplaceNL-approved fall protection), and the mandatory registries, Newfoundland's CTR and Saskatchewan's SkillsPass, where a PDF alone is not compliance.

The June 2026 first-aid renames

Emergency and Standard First Aid became Basic and Intermediate under CSA Z1210:24 on June 22, 2026, with BC's OFA 1/2/3 and Manitoba's First Aider 1/2/3 mapping onto the same tiers. The guide includes the full legacy-to-new naming map and the Ontario Reg 1101 audit wrinkle.
